Christs Florida Health Insurance Initiative Collides with National...

- Coverage that continues even when people are laid off, change jobs or start their own business;

- Affordable premiums, deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses relative to family income;

- The ability to keep current health coverage if desired.

"If Governor Christ is serious about improving Florida health care (http://www.peopleshealthinsurance.com/floridaHealth.jsp), its citizens should demand that he devote more of his March 4, 2008, State of the State speech on the unknown details of his medical insurance plan," Hail says.

"I cannot understand what mechanisms anyone can implement that will reduce plan costs enough to reach the monthly premium goal of $150.00 or less. The controversial aspect of Christ's proposal is that, in the event the legislature does pass his initiative, it would depend upon private insurers' willingness to participate. However, Peoples Health Insurance believes that both the Florida Legislature and health insurers will back the initiative only if the end goals are reduced thus losing the positive benefits it could provide to all citizens. Not only would people who need to find affordable plans be excluded, the broader benefits of having everyone covered would be lost. Peoples Health Insurance expects this initiative will promote widespread debate in the health insurance industry, and continues to focus on Floridians' health care needs as the future of health insurance in the state is uncertain.
