On May 16, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued its prediction for the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, warning of "above normal levels of activity." The
NOAA anticipates 12 to 15 tropical storms, seven to nine of which will be hurricanes, including three to five "major" (category 3 or higher) hurricanes. The Atlantic hurricane season runs
from June 1 to Nov. 30.
