Chicago, IL November 15, 2006 -- Chocolate-lovers visiting the Magnificent Mile have a new reason to smile this holiday season, thanks to Fannie May'ss newly remodeled and expanded
flagship store at Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive. The Sweet Home Chicago showcase, four times the size of the previous store, celebrates the time-honored confectioner'ss art in a fresh,
contemporary setting, while paying homage to the company'ss over 86-year-old history.
The new flagship store reopens on Thursday, November 16 at 8 a.m. The first 100 customers will receive an 8.5-ounce box of Fannie May'ss Limited Edition Eggnog Creams (Retail Value
$9.99), a holiday best-seller featuring an eggnog flavored cream center coated in snowy pastel and dusted with nutmeg spice. Five Fannie May Holiday Tidings Baskets (Retail Value $99.99)
will also be awarded in raffles throughout the day.
Fannie May is honored to be at the center of so many family celebrations, said David Taiclet, CEO of Fannie May. We'sre excited to present a flagship store worthy of that loyalty in time
for the holidays. This store is truly a showcase that honors the rich history and tradition of Fannie May, while inviting Chicago chocolate-lovers to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells
of their hometown favorite in a big way!
Among the highlights of the 3,400-square-foot flagship store is an in-store theater facing Michigan Avenue that will allow passers-by to view chocolate hand-dipping, including ice cream
bars, and strawberries. The demonstration area is designed to both entertain and educate chocolate-lovers on the confectioner'ss art. Freshly-brewed Fannie May Gourmet Coffees, Flavored
Coffees and Hot Chocolate will be other new offerings.
Seasonal favorites including Eggnog Creams, Peppermint Creams, and Holiday Mint Meltaways®, along with Fannie May'ss best-selling Pixies® in a new collectible tin, and many other classic
candy assortments, will also be featured at the flagship store. For history buffs, the flagship store boasts a Heritage Wall that traces Fannie May'ss Chicago roots which date to 1920,
along with a collage of vintage photographs. Store hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
Chicago-based Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture designed the flagship store to create a warm, contemporary interior that encompasses Fannie May'ss red striped awning and other traditional
brand marks. Design elements include terrazzo flooring in waves of green at the entrance that play-off the store'ss location on the Chicago River and transitions into the familiar Fannie
May red and white stripe; suspended track lighting that follows the curve of a circular island candy counter; and, beautiful wood cabinetry and display tables and fixtures that create new
and inviting product presentations.
