Harth Builders, a second generation design-build remodeling company, was awarded a 2009 National Chrysalis Award in the Residential Exterior category.Since 1993, the Chrysalis Awards have honored the finest remodeling projects in the country. Their goal is to provide consumers, remodelers, designers, architects and editors with a resource for remodeling ideas and to identify those companies that produce award-winning work.
The judges are editors and writers of consumer publications such as Better Homes 's38; Gardens, Woman'ss Day'ss Home Remodeling 's38; Makeovers, Southern Living Magazine and Sunset
Magazine. The projects are judged on design, use of materials, use of space and integration into the existing space. What makes these projects so relevant to the public is that these
judges apply their training to select projects they want the public to see just as they would do in their publications.
The work was done on a home built in 1923 and originally owned by Robert Cassatt, son of Alexander Cassatt (President of the Pennsylvania Railroad) and nephew of Mary Cassatt (famous
Impressionist painter). Robert Cassatt had the house built for his son Alexander (named after his grandfather) as a wedding gift, which included a golf course in the back that has since
been subdivided.Modifications had been made over the years by previous homeowners destroyed the original character of the property. The new homeowners wanted to remove the 1970'ss
elements and construction and restore it in a way that complimented the character of the house, honoring and maintaining the original grandeur and craftsmanship.
This was no run of the mill house but rather something rich with Philadelphia history with ties to the English and French style. We were particularly honored for the creative opportunity
to work in collaboration with the homeowners to restore their exceptional property, says Gregory Harth, President of Harth Builders. Photos of the project may be seen on our website,

All projects submitted for judging were an exterior improvement to an existing residential structure. New construction projects were not eligible. In addition, competing projects were
completed after July 1, 2007.
