How To Run a Profitable eBay Auction Business With No Inventory

Listing auctions, handling customer enquiries, packing, shipping, sourcing/buying stock, keeping up with feedback, monitoring the competition - selling on eBay is a tough job and it is no wonder that after working in this way for a few years, many people wish they were back at their day job being an employee!!

eBay auction site is not for everyone. Many ebay auction sellers have been saying that they are sick and tired of the physical tasks involved such as packing and shipping products to their customers.

Many auction sellers say that their only solution is to get rid of the packing and shipping aspect of eBay so that they can start to produce and sell only digital products which could be delivered to the customer automatically.

Sure, they will still have to write sales pages and build websites and deal with emails but for the most part, they have eliminated all of the frustrations of packing and shipping products to all of their customers. Neither do they have to deal with handling any payment collections because it is automatically done, 24/7.

At the last count eBay had more than 100 million members worldwide and were carrying out tens of millions of simultaneous auctions each day. Mind-boggling isn't it Yet approximately only 1% of those 100 million plus members are actually selling on eBay.

On the other hand, there is certainly no shortage of buyers. On any given day more than 1.5 million people visit eBay, which lists close to 4 million objects. Online auctions got over $2 billion in 2002 and that number will keep rising in the billions for 2005 and 2006.

eBay says that there are hundreds of thousands of casual sellers on eBay who pull in less than $2,000 in auction revenues a month, and at least 25,000 "power sellers" who rake in from $2,000 to $500,000 a month. The rest are buying.

It appears that the majority of sellers on eBay fall into the category of being a hobby seller. They buy a few bits and pieces at their local yard sale and sell it on eBay. They are not really tapping into the real money that is available to be made because they are not really taking the ebay business seriously enough.

A brand new and very hot selling trend is taking place on ebay auctions which deals strickly with digital products such as ebooks, reports, audio files, video files, articles and software. Many sellers are now learning that they can make 100 times more money selling these digital products instead of the old way of selling hard goods. The great thing is that these digital products can be downloaded over the Internet; therefore they need no conventional storage space, no packing, and certainly no trips to the Post Office.

If you don't know anything about digital products it's very easy to find out about them, but if you would rather sell a conventional product then get someone else to hold the stock and do the packing and postage for you.

eBay provides a wonderful opportunity for hundreds of thousands of people but it isn't for everyone and if you find yourself frustrated/bored with the same old routine of selling hard goods everyday, start thinking digital. Then decide what digital items or products you would like to sell within the auction area of ebay.

The possibilities are limitless. Ninety percent of the digital technology that has been developed today has not even been utilized to its full potential. The digital age is just getting started. Now is the time to claim your share of this vast marketplace.
