Merge Records was formed by Laura Balance and Mac McCaughan in 1988 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In 1992, the pair released their first full-length record, "Tossing Seeds," by their band, Superchunk. Balance and McCaughan soon formed a relationship with Touch and Go Records, who still manufacture and distribute the bulk of their full-length releases. Today, the label is home to a variety of quality artists, including Arcade Fire, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Breadwinner, and Spoon.
"I'm thrilled that we're able to air a Merge Records showcase, as it is one of my favorite labels," says BTR's DJ Annie, whose show will boast favorites such as Buzzcocks, Spoon, and Neutral Milk, as well as newer artists that listeners may not have gotten the chance to check out elsewhere. "Merge has supported so many fantastic artists over the years, and I'm happy to have the opportunity to host a show with such a great array of music."
The "Merge Records Showcase" is available in the station's archive and program guide, along with all of BTR's previous record label showcases and other specialty programs. Listeners can tune in to hear DJ Annie's picks from the Merge Records roster by visiting
