January 30, 2005 -- FIZ Karlsruhe, the European partner of premier science and technology online service STN International, has added EPFULL (the European Patents Full Text database) to
its comprehensive portfolio of patent databases.
EPFULL covers the full text of European patent applications and granted European patents as well as bibliographic records for PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) applications transferred to
the EPO. This new file replaces the former files EUROPATFULL and PATOSEP and complements STN's high-quality offer of full-text patent databases in an optimum way. Numerous search fields
allow detailed searches (also for special information such as the address of the patent assignee or inventor) and statistic evaluations. Truncated searches are also possible. EPFULL on
STN can be tested in February 2005 without connect time charges.
Records contain bibliographic data, the full text of the detailed description, and claims. The complete specification is given in one of EPO's official languages English, German or French
for published unexamined applications (A-documents) from 1987 to date and examined granted patents (B-documents) since 1991. Titles are available in all three languages. Claims can be
accessed for A-documents in English, German or French, for B-documents in all three languages. Abstracts in the original publication language can be searched for A-documents. English
abstracts are added to German and French documents within several weeks of their addition to the database. Patent, application and priority information, abstracts and claims are
searchable. All documents featuring the same application number are grouped together in one single document. Bibliographic data correspond to those in the European Patent
Bulletin/European Patent Register. The file is updated weekly.
All information in EPFULL can be accessed through STN's powerful search functions. Search terms may be entered individually, or logically concatenated in a combined search. Only results
matching all predefined criteria are retrieved. Simultaneous left and right truncation (searches using the root of a word, with prefixes and/or suffixes substituted by question marks) is
also possible.
STN International is one of the world's leading providers of patent information. The information network offers professional solutions in the field of patent rights. Powerful search and
analysis tools allow comprehensive and efficient information retrieval from more than 30 national and international patent databases covering patent information from more than 70
countries. STN is the only online service offering Chemical Abstracts and Derwent World Patents Index, two renowned databases with valuable content in the field of patents, on one single
platform. Innovative software solutions allow detailed analysis and concise visualization of complex data.
The more than 220 databases hosted on STN International can be accessed by dialing in to STN's online service using its powerful proprietary client software, "STN Express with Discover",
or over the Internet using a standard web browser (http://stnweb.fiz-karlsruhe.de). EPFULL is also available via STN Easy, the point-and-click
interface for occasional searchers unfamiliar with the STN command language (http://stneasy.fiz-karlsruhe.de).
