VistaDB Software announces an early preview of VistaDB 4 Entity Framework, announcing today delivery on its promise to support ADO.NET Entity Framework and LINQ to Entities for .NET developers.
VistaDB enables .NET application developers through an XCopy deployable TSQL compliant database engine written entirely in .NET. VistaDB already supports ADO.NET provider factories, and
full integration with Visual Studio 2008. Adding support for ADO.NET Entity Framework gives VistaDB users a non Microsoft solution for deploying desktop database applications that use the
3.5 framework.
Part of the promise of ADO.NET Entity Framework is that you can move your database and model to another provider, rather than being locked into only SQL Server with LINQ 2 SQL, said Jason
Short, President, VistaDB Software. We are very pleased to announce that starting in January our customers will be able to start using the ADO.NET Entity Framework to deploy their
databases as well.
VistaDB allows application developers to use advanced features normally only found in SQL Server such as TSQL Procs, CLR Procs, CLR Triggers, updatable views, and much more. More than
7,000 developers worldwide are now using VistaDB on Windows, Compact Framework and Mono.
VistaDB 4 will provide developers with several new enhancements:
* Entity Framework and LINQ support
* ADO.NET 3.5 Provider
* Revised Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Integration
* .NET CLR stored procedures
* Strongly typed interfaces for Direct Data Access (DDA)
VistaDB 3 is currently available with VistaDB 4 scheduled for customer early access starting in January 2009 and a general availability in Q2 2009.
About ADO.NET Entity Framework:
Microsoft has developed the ADO.NET Entity Framework with a primary goal of raising the level of abstraction available for data programming, thus simplifying the development of data aware
applications and enabling developers to write less code. The Entity Framework is the evolution of ADO.NET that allows developers to program in terms of the standard ADO.NET abstraction or
in terms of persistent objects (ORM) and is built upon the standard ADO.NET Provider model which allows access to third party databases.
