Smart Lipo No Smarter Lipo



SKINTASTIC Medical and Surgical Skin Rejuvenation Center in North Dallas/Plano was one of the first cosmetic surgery centers in Texas to offer SmartLipo Laser Lipolysis--an innovative, laser-powered twist on traditional liposuction that not only melts stubborn body fat like butter, but it also thermally-tightens areas of loose skin. The original SmartLipo laser by Cynosure, just FDA-approved in October, 2006 ran on 6 watts; the new SmartLipo lipolysis system provides 10 watts of laser power--an 66.7% increase! That increase in power cuts treatment times virtually in half, resulting in a more comfortable treatment and a potentially lessened recovery time than the 2 days on average experienced by SmartLipo patients receiving the 6 watt treatment (compare that to two weeks recovering from traditional liposuction).



In addition to the shortened procedure time and reduced anesthesia required, it is expected that the higher-powered treatment might also provide some improvements in skin tightening and rejuvenation. Skin-tightening effects appear gradually up to six months after the procedure, as the skin, stimulated by the thermal heating, reforms a thicker, tighter collagen layer. This fresh collagen 'refills' the skin to a more youthful thickness, tightening and helping to smooth the skin's overall appearance. SKINTASTIC offers a variety of radiofrequency skin-tightening procedures, but SmartLipo is the only technology that effectively addresses both fat and skin-tightening in a single treatment.
