San Antonio bariatric surgeons Terive Duperier, MD, and Michael Seger, MD, today announced the formation of the Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas (www.bmioftexas.com). BMI of Texas is located in San Antonio'ss Medical Center area and helps patients achieve their weight loss goals through various surgical procedures including gastric bypass, adjustable gastric band and sleeve gastrectomy. Additionally, the surgeons perform a full spectrum of advanced laparoscopic procedures, including laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (anti-reflux surgery), laparoscopic colon surgery, laparoscopic pancreatic surgery, and laparoscopic hernia surgeries. BMI of Texas can be reached via telephone at (210) 615-8500 or www.bmioftexas.com.
BMI of Texas assists patients throughout their entire weight loss journey. After attending a free, educational seminar and learning about the various types of weight loss surgery
procedures, patients are assigned a patient advocate to help coordinate the often-confusing paperwork and insurance stipulations necessary for surgical intervention. Post-operatively, the
doctors continue to follow their patients to ensure long-term weight loss success. Dr. Duperier and Dr. Seger have been performing bariatric surgery in San Antonio for years, and are
recognized by peers and patients for their excellent surgical skills and patient care.
We are very excited about our vision for BMI of Texas. Our experienced, knowledgeable staff is in place to help educate and prepare patients for surgery. San Antonio has a severe weight
problem and our goal is to help free people from many of the co-morbidities associated with obesity, like diabetes, sleep apnea and many types of cancers, said Dr. Duperier.
A board-certified surgeon with special expertise in endocrine and thyroid general surgery procedures, Dr. Duperier is highly regarded in the field of bariatric surgery. He has performed
more than 500 procedures including laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic gastric bypass and the minimally-invasive sleeve gastrectomy. Dr. Duperier also performs a high volume of
parathyroid and thyroid surgeries, and regularly performs revision surgeries to correct and repair problems related to previous bariatric procedures. A native of San Antonio, Dr. Duperier
is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and Bexar County Medical Society. He earned his M.D.
from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine and his bachelor'ss degree in Neuroscience from Brown University in 1991.
Dr. Seger says the two surgeons partnered to form BMI of Texas because they share the same vision for weight loss surgery patients. We are committed to south Texas and our patients here,
and look forward to helping them along their weight loss journey, said Dr. Seger. Our vision is to offer patients an environment that supports and assists them along every step of that
journey -- from the initial consult through surgery and then in the months and years that follow so they are empowered to achieve long-term weight loss success and a healthier life. What
sets us apart is that we are experienced in performing all the types of weight loss surgeries that are available so patients normally choose their surgical procedure based on what best
fits their personality and weight loss goals.
In addition to his successful bariatric surgery practice, Dr. Seger performs a broad array of minimally invasive general surgery procedures. He has also been instrumental in establishing
and leading training programs for surgeons in Texas and the U.S. He founded the Minimally Invasive Surgeons of Texas Advanced Laparoscopic 's38; Bariatric Surgery Training Program in San
Antonio, where surgeons from around the U.S. come to learn highly specialized procedures. He was selected as a national proctor by Ethicon Endo-Surgery to teach other bariatric surgeons
how to use its new REALIZE band, which was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2007. In addition Dr. Seger is a member of the American Medical Association, American
Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Bexar County Medical Society, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and Texas Association of Bariatric Surgeons (past
officer). He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Seger received his M.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center
and holds a B.A. degree from the University of Texas.
