Despite Over a Half Million Job Losses Healthcare Still Booming

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, in November 2008, nearly all major industries suffered job losses, while healthcare grew by 34,000 and has added 369,000 jobs over the past 12 months. Consider the rising baby boomer population alone. Baby boomers with chronic illnesses need care and baby boomers who are retiring from healthcare positions need to be replaced. With few experienced candidates entering the healthcare profession to fill so many positions, the healthcare professionals left behind inherit a heavier workload.

Danielle Dupree, a health career consultant with Career Resourcing Specialists (CRS), who specializes in allied health professions, advises, Even with the existing demand, it will take more than posting resumes, answering classifieds, and searching internet job boards. So candidates need someone with ample resources and the right connections. When looking to make a career move, a healthcare professional should want more than a mere salary increase. A good candidate has additional motivation for a career change, such as a want or need to relocate, boredom, less than desirable commute, limited growth, lack of recognition, poor benefits, poor training, co-worker or management conflict, or a heavy workload.

Unfortunately, candidates are usually warned to avoid recruiters like the plague because of aggressive sales tactics. For concerned candidates, Dupree is quick to clarify, While that may be true for some firms, on the other side of the spectrum there are candidate-focused firms, like CRS. Our mission is to first, build a relationship with our candidates. Second, discover more about the opportunity they desire. Then, identify the appropriate opportunity, rather than force them to take a job they don'st want.

About Career Resourcing Specialists (CRS): Oregon-based CRS is a nationally established staffing and placement firm for healthcare professionals. Though CRS specializes in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy, they network with hundreds of healthcare staffing and placement firms nationwide, in unlimited healthcare specialties, to provide the best match for the professional and the facility by listening, and working hard so both parties have an experience that is pleasant and positive.
