Rochester Company Teams with ABC and Kansas City Chiefs to Help a Needy Family

May 14, 2005 -- Known for their remarkable, timely home renovations and charitable efforts, ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (EMHE) recently enlisted the help of a Rochester, New York company for its latest episode. WARD'S Natural Science, founded in 1862, by Rochesterian adventurer, Henry Ward, gladly accepted the opportunity to contribute to making dreams come true for a deserving family. Ward's donated a number of science education items for use in the newly renovated home featured on yesterday's EMHE episode. The show was filmed in Kansas City, so some of the local sports heroes also pitched in to help. In this episode, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" gives a fresh start to a local hero and single dad with five children in Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas City Chiefs, Trent Green and Tony Richardson, also make a special appearance to help out.

In preparation for this Sunday's episode, EMHE contacted Ward's Natural Science, requesting some materials for use in a child's room which was to be transformed into a crime lab. Ward's donated a number of their most popular forensics products, designed to make science exploration fun, including Ward's exclusive Sherlock Bones activity. Other items included an advanced microscope, crime scene tape, and evidence markers to add to the authenticity of the crime lab room. This is the third time Ward's has made a donation to the makeover show; the first occurred on episode 12 of season one, in April of 2004 and the second in January of this year, on episode 12 - "The Anderson Family". Previous items donated include a lab table, microscope, and Ward's exclusive activity kits. This third request for products and learning supplies was met with eager enthusiasm from Ward's employees.

The episode containing Ward's donated items aired this Sunday, May 8, with a behind-the-scenes follow up, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: How'd they do that," Monday, May 9 at 8 p.m. You could spot some scientific touches throughout the children's rooms, made possible through help from Ward's Natural Science.

Ward's is dedicated to making science fun, easy, and safe through the development of highest quality science education materials. To have this company commitment recognized a third time by a national television show is indeed a prestigious honor for Ward's Natural Science.

WARD'S Natural Science is located at 5100 West Henrietta Road. For any questions, interviews, or media requests, please contact Nol France at 585-321-9458 or e-mail protected from spam bots. For more information on Ward's Natural Science please visit www.wardsci.com.
