Dr Clifton Davis to Speak at Medgar Evers College
May 14, 2005 -- The College is pleased to announce that Dr. Clifton Davis will speak at the Presidential Lecture Series, on Wednesday, May 15th. The event will take place at 12:00 noon in Founders Auditorium at 1650 Bedford Avenue. There will be a second address by Dr. Davis at 6:00 pm.
Dr. Davis, an actor, singer, composer, speaker and minister, is truly a renaissance man. Having amassed numerous television, film and Broadway acting credits over the past 30 years, Dr. Davis is perhaps best known for his 5-year stint as Reverend Reuben Gregory on the popular television series, "Amen." As a composer, Davis received a Grammy nomination for his hit song, "Never Can Say Goodbye." As a singer and recording artist, he has enjoyed success with his album "Gospel Greats," on Benson Records, and has performed in concert all over the nation. Over the years, Dr. Davis has also become a celebrated motivational speaker, having been the keynote speaker for the S.C.L.C, the UNCF, the NAACP Freedom Fund of South Carolina, National Black Meeting Planners, 100 Black Men of America, the National Black Educators convention and more than 125 Universities and schools.
Davis holds a BA in Theology from Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama and a Master of Divinity degree from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. Mr. Davis is also the recipient of two honorary Doctorate degrees; a Doctor of Ministry Degree and a Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Lincoln University.
The College's Presidential Lecture Series invites a broad range of highly accomplished men and women from the professional, academic, artistic, and political worlds to dialogue with the Medgar Evers College community on issues of historical and contemporary importance. By providing a forum for the free exchange of ideas and issues, the College continues its mission of promoting intellectual curiosity, political engagement, and social commitment. Originally conceived as part of the Freshman Year Program, The Presidential Lecture Series has now become a college-wide program welcoming students from every academic discipline. The stated purpose of the Series is to expose the entire student population to an array of individuals whose experience, commitment, and multicultural perspectives will serve as an inspiration to
the college community.
