Cal State San Marcos Extended Studies Offers Workshops to Help Therapists...



Cal State San Marcos Extended Studies is offering three workshops this fall semester to help therapists, counselors, social workers and other caregivers better understand and manage the dynamics of situations involving child abuse and neglect, elder care planning and family violence.



The one-day workshops will be held at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, Conference Center. Each is specifically designed to meet the California state licensure requirements in the areas of child and spousal abuse as well as aging and long term care, and each qualifies for continuing education credit by the Board of Behavioral Sciences and the California Board of Registered Nursing. Child Abuse and Neglect explores the assessment of child abuse including neglect as well as physical, psychological and sexual abuse. Reporting requirements and procedures are described as are prevention and treatment strategies. The workshop will meet from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 20 at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, Conference Center. Fee: $89 (8.0 Continuing Education Hours).



Elder Care Planning: The Role of Behavioral Science Professionals examines the 's8220;whys, whens and hows's8221; that therapists and social workers need to know to help their clients put an elder care plan into place. The workshop will discuss the biological, social and psychological aspects of aging. Additional topics include the affects of elder care planning on the entire family and strategies to avoid being overburdened by elder care responsibilities. The workshop will meet from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, Conference Center. Fee: $69 (6.0 Continuing Education Hours).



Family Violence studies ways to detect, assess and intervene in cases of family violence, which includes physical, emotional and sexual abuse and the impact of partner violence on other family members. Reporting requirements and procedures and community resources will be described. The workshop will meet from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, Conference Center. Fee: $89 (8.0 Continuing Education Hours).
