8211;- Cal State San Marcos Extended Studies and The Kid's8217;s College are collaborating on a series of Saturday 's8220;camps's8221; for talented and gifted students. The 's8220;World
Adventure Expedition's8221; sessions, to be held on the Cal State San Marcos campus, will immerse GATE (Gifted And Talented Education) and other high-achieving third through fifth graders
in learning exercises designed to enhance their written, oral, visual, kinesthetic, musical, and artistic skills. The program will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on five Saturdays in
September through December.
's8220;The distinctive cultures of the world provide a nice vehicle for immersing students in a robust learning experience,'s8221; said Anna DuBois, Extended Studies program director.
's8220;Through the language, food, history, art, music, science, and/or dance of each country, participating eight- through 11-year-old students will expand their perceptions of their own
world.'s8221; She added that the attendees will learn about the cultures of Russia, Spain, China, India, and Africa through exciting, hands-on projects from each country or region.
's8220;We's8217;ve designed the program to be thought-provoking, imagination sparking and irresistibly fun,'s8221; said Carole Beeson, Executive Director of The Kid's8217;s College. She
noted that in addition to meeting State of California educational standards, the program is specifically designed to stretch participants's8217; thinking, communications and physical
skills.
Enrollment is limited to ensure a 10:1 student/staff ratio. Instructors are experienced and passionate about their field and will share that excitement with the students.
The program will be held from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturdays, Sept. 30; Oct. 14 and 28; Nov. 18; and Dec. 2. In addition to the learning sessions during the day, participants will have
supervised morning and lunch breaks; children should bring a packed lunch each day. The program fee is $210 per child. Families registering more than one child qualify for a second child
