New Internship Training Program Offered in Partnership

Destination ImagiNation's174; is proud to announce its partnership with the Capital Area REACH Program. This partnership will offer Capital Area REACH students an innovative internship training curriculum. From January through May, Destination ImagiNation will hold monthly workshops for Capital Area REACH Program participants to prepare them for community service, summer internships, and future employment. The hands-on workshops will challenge the students by incorporating such valuable skills as problem solving, effective communication and creativity, and they will teach the students to apply these skills to their lives. The workshops are designed to better equip the students to enter employment with appropriate expectations, attitudes, and work-maturity skills.

We'sre thrilled to team with the Capital Area REACH Program, said Rusty McCarty, DI President. Their participants are great students and devoted community activists, and we hope our training workshops can help as they grow into successful adults.

The Capital Area REACH Program strives to help young people in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, area become successful in school, work, and the community. For more than six years, with caring adult volunteers and employers, the REACH Program has gotten students involved in community service in order to teach them the critical skills that they need in order to succeed--including organization, perseverance, timeliness and creativity. REACH Program partners include local employers, business and community volunteers, and faith-based organizations.

Summer internships are a key component of the program and provide an opportunity to introduce them to the working world. This opportunity is what makes the REACH Program'ss partnership with Destination ImagiNation so exciting. Before they are placed into internships, participants are required to participate in five distinct, intensive training workshops presented by Destination ImagiNation.

When we look for internship candidates, we look for students who can adapt to the way our firm functions so they can take advantage of the experience, said Tom Crawford, President of C2 group. REACH'ss new training curriculum will really enhance the internship experience for students by teaching them how to creatively approach problems to solve them quickly.

In the training workshops, REACH Program participants will learn a multitude of skills designed to aid them as they pursue their future careers. The students will learn critical and creative problem solving skills, and they will also learn to apply previously learned skills to real-world scenarios. The training workshops will start in January and end in May, when selected students will begin their internships.

After seeing the impact that REACH has already had on my children, I can'st wait to see how the new curriculum will benefit all of the students involved in the Reach Program, April Stafford, Reach volunteer and parent, said. I think the students are ready for the challenge.
