Ten Keys for Boosting Memory to Improve Study Habits by Master Hypnotherapist...

Here are some ways to reach for the "A" grade and still have a life.

1) Memory is trainable.

Start training your memory to retain information for longer periods and to become more aware by using a combination of self-hypnosis and memory games (What was the person who just passed you on the street wearing How many people were standing in the cashier line at the last store you went to What did the cashier's name tag say)

2) Memory is triggered by context.

Study in a physical place that is set up similarly to where your exam will take place. In other words, study at a desk with a chair, not laying on the bed, in the garden or sprawled out on the floor!

3) Your Body Can Help you Remember

If your body is in a consistent position for studying, it will increase your chances for recall. The body works best when consistent familiarity becomes the norm. For instance, with sports or dance, repeating the same thing consistently in the same place confirms the action. We call this muscle memory, when in fact it is the muscles responding automatically to the mind memory.

4) Memory depends on your mental state.

When studying, you need to keep the same focus and enhanced attention you have when taking a test. The way to ensure that happens is to set up the mental state ahead of time through hypnosis training, so that you go into a slightly altered state both when studying and when taking the tests. Hypnosis enables deeper concentration and activation levels and improves your ability for recall.

5) Memory needs manageable amounts of information.

Study for regular periods of time such as 20 or 30 minutes, then take a 10-minute break. Then study for another 20 or 30 minutes followed by another 10-minute break. If you can't concentrate or remember what you've just read, then stop, take a break and study some more. The brain retains more when we learn in small manageable amounts. Even if you are enjoying the reading material, force yourself to take a break.

Says Dr. Cannon, "By understanding the power of your subconscious mind to retain information, you can use a lot less time and effort to achieve far greater results!" Dr. Cannon teaches these simple techniques through hypnotherapy to maximize study habits and improve efficiency.
