June 14, 2005 -- Many people are simply not aware of some of the basic tricks to make digital photography more enjoyable and more effective. Digital Camera Trackers offers five top tricks
to getting better digital pictures:
1. Stop shutter lag. Cameras are getting faster but if yours isn't and you are missing shots, try the prefocusing trick, it will help you. Essentially you are holding the shutter button
half-way down so the camera prefocuses.
2. There is no relationship between resolution and megapixels. More megapixels do not make a better camera. Truth is, the number of megapixels is a measure of size, not quality. Don't let
camera sales people tell you differently.
3. Use optical zoom and forget digital zoom. In an attempt to get into your wallet or purse, camera companies also brag two different zoom factors: the optical zoom (usually 3X) and
digital zoom (10X! 20X! 30X!).
Digital zoom doesn't bring you closer or capture more detail. For best results, turn this feature off. The optical zoom number is the one that matters; it means a lens that brings you
closer to the subject.
4. Turn the LCD screen off. It's the No. 1 user of your battery power. Hold the camera up to your eye and look through its optical viewfinder, turning off the screen while shooting can
double the life of each battery.
5. Use large f/stops when photographing individuals or couples. When taking a portrait of an individual or couple it's almost always better to use a large f/stop. Reason being it's all
about keeping attention on the subject. When you use a large f/stop your subject will be in focus and the background will be out of focus.
