Bank of Hawaii Uses Advanced Learning Methods from Interaction Associates...

The strategic, and highly practical learning methods of Interaction Associates (IA) are credited by leaders at the Bank of Hawaii for aiding the company's successful transformational change - a strategic shift that repositioned the bank in response to market changes.

Bank of Hawaii partnered with Interaction Associates to develop leaders (http://www.interactionassociates.com/email/landing.html) and tap into employees' potential in an internal strategic initiative called "Pathways to Leadership Excellence". The Pathways program was focused on achieving companywide excellence in five areas the bank called "cultural imperatives" and viewed as critical to the success of its new strategy. These imperatives included: becoming results driven; acting accountably; communicating openly and honestly; embracing change; and achieving teamwork excellence. The cultural imperatives posed a central challenge to company leadership: How could the bank develop leadership qualities and skills that would support and drive the cultural imperatives companywide

"We turned to Interaction Associates because IA's workshops are very practical and the skills taught linked easily to our cultural imperatives," said Therese Dickerson, Vice President of human resources at Bank of Hawaii. "Interaction Associates involvement in Pathways to Leadership Excellence is helping us increase our management capability and reducing turnover - thus contributing to our ability to grow," added Dickerson.

Using its trademark facilitative approach (http://www.interactionassociates.com/services/wwd_leadership.html), IA's advanced learning methods were targeted at the bank's supervisor and manager ranks and focused on developing core skills in a suite of innovative workshops, including Managing with Impact, Essentials of Coaching, Teams in Action, and Facilitative Leadership (http://www.interactionassociates.com/services/wsp_facilitative-leadership.html). "We also developed key change leadership skills in two specific employee groups with two custom workshops," said Jamie Harris, Senior Consultant at IA. "The two groups included managers responsible for cross-functional change projects, and front-line supervisors who manage teams and workgroups required to implement change initiatives," added Harris.

The results for Bank of Hawaii are seen in employees' ready application of skills and behaviors on the job after participating in IA learning workshops. "The most important behaviors we see people taking back to work from the IA workshops are increasing clarity and involvement of others in decision making, focusing on results in meetings, and celebrating the accomplishment of others," added Dickerson.
