Application performance reaches new threshold for high concurrent access.
Newport Beach - June 15, 2005 -- http://www.livetime.com {LiveTime Software} today announced http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/ [Solaris 10] Operating System (OS) support for LiveTime Help Desk and Support Desk v3.5. Customers deploying LiveTime applications on http://www.sun.com/ [Sun Microsystems]' (http://finance.yahoo.com/qs=SUNW [Nasdaq: SUNW]) new http://news.google.com/newsq=solaris%2010&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&client=safari&rls=en-us&sa=N&tab=wn [Solaris 10] OS will be able to take advantage of the many performance optimizations found in the new release, as well as capitalize on a broader range of high-end servers including http://news.google.com/newsq=AMD%20Opteron&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&client=safari&rls=en-us&sa=N&tab=wn [AMD] http://finance.yahoo.com/qs=AMD [Opteron] and http://news.google.com/newsq=Intel&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&client=safari&rls=en-us&sa=N&tab=wn [Intel] http://finance.yahoo.com/qs=INTC&d=t [Xeon] processor-based systems.
Many new features in Solaris 10 offer real world benefits to LiveTime customers. Including:
* Performance improvements as a direct result of the completely rewritten Solaris 10 TCP/IP stack. The new redesigned stack lowers network overhead by reducing the number of instructions required to process network packets and allows the LiveTime server to handle many more concurrent requests.
* http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/ds/containers.jsp [Solaris Container] technology enables customers to effectively cluster LiveTime instances on a single box, avoiding the need for additional resources. This allows the deployment of multiple production instances of LiveTime on a single server. System and network resources can then be allocated and controlled on a fine-grained basis, helping simplify computing infrastructures and improving resource utilization.
* The new predictive self-healing capabilities of Solaris 10 are also expected to improve the service uptime of LiveTime production instances. With http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/ds/self_healing.jsp [Solaris Fault Manager] enabled, the Solaris server will be able to receive data relating to hardware and software errors, and act to automatically and silently diagnoses the underlying problem. Once a problem is diagnosed, the server will automatically try and attempt to fix the problem before impacting on any service levels.
"Solaris OS has always allowed our customers to quickly deploy LiveTime on high performing multi-processor configurations requiring a high level of performance, scalability, and availability", said Dr George Vossos, Chief Technology Officer, LiveTime Software. "Now, with Solaris 10, our customers can take advantage of the many special optimizations targeted at multithreaded processors and the x86 architecture, at a significantly lower cost."
"With world record Java performance and features such as Solaris Containers and Predictive Self Healing Solaris 10 is the best platform for LiveTime's mission critical support operation," said Tom Goguen, vice president, Software Platforms, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "By taking advantage of the worlds best OS, Solaris 10, LiveTime can deliver to its customers a reliable, high performing solution."
