Implementing a citywide ESRI system can be time and labor consuming process. It also can wreak havoc on a budget.That's8217;s why Cendura, ® a leader in IT services configuration
management solutions for enterprises, today unveiled its new Cohesion ESRI Blueprints. Designed to help governments and enterprises streamline the process of implementing and maintaining
ESRI systems, Cohesion's8217;s seven out-of-the-box ESRI Blueprints help organizations roll out software releases faster and more efficiently.
On average, it reduces time spent on server upgrades from approximately two weeks to two days. Applications can be upgraded in 1.5 days, down from an average of four days per application.
In fact, a recent implementation that would have taken the City of Cleveland more than 658 days to complete only took 224 days 's8211; saving approximately 66% in time and labor
costs.
's8220;The natural starting point for any automation project is to know what assets are actually in your data center,'s8221; says Rick McEachern, chief marketing officer for Cendura.
's8220;As that 's8216;source of truth,'s8217; Cohesion provides a support platform that improves efficiency 's8211; which in turn accelerates an organization's8217;s own development
activities.'s8221;
Cendura's8217;s Cohesion software helps IT organizations proactively manage and automate changes to the IT infrastructure underlying distributed business applications and services. It
does this by discovering, mapping, auditing and correcting configurations of related IT assets. Cohesion's8217;s Configuration Management Database (CMDB) keeps track of the actual
configurations of IT assets across servers, software components or IT services. This enables companies to rapidly identify and remedy existing or potential business service problems.
The Cohesion Suite for ESRI includes a series of blueprints that collect and automatically refresh information about detailed configurations, parameters, file system elements and
locations applicable to the ESRI GIS infrastructure.
The ESRI Blueprints that ship with Cohesion can be customized easily to fit the needs of an individual company or government agency.
Each blueprint includes ESRI-recommended settings, best practices and rules, base-tiered architecture support, relationships and dependencies.
City of Cleveland Saves Time and Money with Cohesion
Utilizing Cohesion and its ESRI Blueprints, Montgomery Wilson (MWH) 's8211; a global leader in providing knowledge driven services to municipalities, government agencies, multinational
companies, industrial concerns and military organizations worldwide 's8211; helped the City of Cleveland implement and maintain a citywide ESRI GIS system. During that implementation,
they used Cohesion to roll out new software releases and manage GIS Server installs and upgrades with increased efficiency.
In total, Cohesion saved the City of Cleveland an estimated 294 days of labor.Cohesion reduced server upgrades from two weeks to two days per server 's8211; saving more than twelve weeks
of implementation and labor time. During application upgrades, implementation time was reduced from four days per application to one and a half days per application 's8211; saving the
City of Cleveland 210 days of labor. In addition, MWH was able to provide the City of Cleveland with customized ESRI GIS documentation.
's8220;Cohesion helped MWH to roll out software releases faster and more efficiently, and the City of Cleveland met its implementation goals and stayed within budget,'s8221; says
McEachern.
The City of Cleveland's8217;s environment included Oracle 10g servers. Cohesion ESRI Blueprints used by MWH for the City of Cleveland included:
·
ESRI ArcGIS
·
ESRI ArcIMS
·
ESRI ArcSDE
·
ESRI ArcGIS Server
·
ESRI ArcGIS Desktop
MWH used Cohesion for:
Policy Compliance 's8211; Cohesion was used to create a set of rules that governed MWH's8217;s own best practices, performance, and City of Cleveland security policies. They were able to
simultaneously track and document their effectiveness.
Change Detection 's8211; By running a comparison of snapshots between the 's8220;testing's8221; and 's8220;production's8221; environments, MWH automatically could view changes and
inconsistencies. To bring the component into compliance, the team ran a 's8220;change job's8221; and any changes were automatically updated in the Blueprint. Manual audits were
eliminated.
Gold Standards 's8211; The MWH team fine-tuned configuration settings over time to achieve optimal application performance. These were saved in a 's8220;Gold Standard's8221; Blueprint.
Now, the team can compare new deployments in the 's8220;testing's8221; environment with 's8220;production's8221; environment to verify they have the correct baseline.
Reports 's8211; Regularly scheduled snapshots of its application state improved reliability of information audits to meet City of Cleveland requirements for documentation.
Having experienced the laborious and lengthy process of implement and maintaining a city-wide ESRI GIS system, MWH derived immediate value from out-of-the-box ESRI GIS Blueprints that
could be quickly and easily updated. They were able to redeploy staff to address application upgrades and new functionality.
's8220;With Cohesion's8217;s central repository of application information and its set of management modules, the MWH team was able to quickly automate processes, instilling greater
confidence in the application's8217;s performance, reliability and integrity,'s8221; says McEachern.
