SharePoints Missing Link Governance

Corridor Consulting, Inc., and Doculabs, Inc., today jointly announced the upcoming launch of a web site for information around the governance of the Microsoft SharePoint product for enterprise content management (ECM). The not-for-profit site, SharePointGovernance.org will launch on July 1, 2009, and will provide a free exchange for information technology (IT) professionals and end users who deal with SharePoint day in and day out, in realworld situations.

Founded by Corridor and Doculabs, the site will provide the opportunity for Fortune 5000 companies to compare what works and what doesn'st for the governance of SharePoint implementations. The majority of the site content will be provided by Peers - SharePoint practitioners in corporations who build or advise on solutions for their organizations and are willing to share their expertise to improve and evolve the larger SharePoint community. In addition, SharePoint Gurus (published experts and bloggers) will weigh in on peer postings and contribute their own content. Community participants will be able to share knowledge ranging from highlevel strategy, down to the tactics of deploying and managing SharePoint.

Says Tom Rizzo, Microsoft'ss Senior Director for the SharePoint product, SharePointGovernance.org fills a key void in the industry by providing the first peer-to-peer exchange for the Fortune 5000 SharePoint community, coupled with authoritative feedback from leading SharePoint authorities. SharePoint has seen explosive growth in organizations around the world and is Microsoft'ss fastestgrowing product, achieving $1 billion in sales faster than any previous Microsoft product. Because of its elegant simplicity, SharePoint has become one of the most widely deployed technologies within organizations. But managing this growth in a controlled manner requires effective controls and policies - an area in which many IT professionals have limited experience.

Having robust and effective governance is critical for leveraging SharePoint as a common information infrastructure, says Russell Stalters, the Head of Information 's38; Records Architecture at BP America, Inc. The SharePointGovernance.org site will be the destination of choice for organizations looking for guidance, best practices, and lessons learned about implementing SharePoint and effective governance.

Corridor and Doculabs are now seeking Peers to share governance artifacts, tools, or documents, as well as contributions from Gurus who agree to review Peer-provided content posted to the site for specific categories. Interested contributors can contact us via the site at www.sharepointgovernance.org or contact Laura Bayko at (781) 229-9933 ext 19 for more information.

Topics to be addressed on the site include information management and organization with SharePoint, SharePoint coexistence with ECM, the role of SharePoint in outsourcing, business case justification for SharePointrelated initiatives, and deploying SharePoint across the enterprise. All users - everyone from IT executives and directors, to site administrators, to users - will be able to benefit tremendously from the site, says Gautam Desai, Vice President at Doculabs. Whether they'sre your peers, solution providers, or SharePoint authorities, the experts on SharePointGovernance.org have seen and done a lot, and they will be there to help.

Corridor and Doculabs have engaged a number of strategic sponsors, including K2, KnowledgeLake, Fujitsu, SchemaLogic, Concept Searching and SoftwareONE. The Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) is also working jointly on the site.

As I travel around the world in support of AIIM, one of the most common questions asked of me is what others are doing with SharePoint, says John Mancini, President of AIIM. SharePointGovernance.org fills a vital need, as it introduces a complete peer-to-peer platform for sharing what works and what does not work in the world of SharePoint. We look forward to participating in this vibrant and important community.
