Public Opening of Three Canyons Green Development
The Three Canyons project is as much about planting oak trees and harvesting water as it is about constructing adobe walls and living rooms. Conservation Properties developers David Parsons and Denny Hubbell envision regenerating this 1,760-acre former ranch to the lush savanna grassland and cienega wetland it was 150 years ago's8211;before the impact of the railroad, woodcutting and overgrazing.
Over the past year, local contractors have been busy laying underground utilities, building roads designed to harvest storm runoff, repairing existing ponds, reseeding native plant species and building brush weirs to slow water flow and increase absorption. Already native grasses have returned in abundance after cattle were removed from the land two years ago. Three canyons is just northeast of Patagonia on scenic Highway 82.
A Three Canyons preview for agents, builders and brokers is scheduled for Saturday, September 30th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. On Sunday, October 1, the general public is invited to join the Three Canyons team and tour the property from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
's8220;There will be food, live music and interpretive nature walks both days, so dress casual and put on your walking shoes,'s8221; says Gary Retherford, general manager of Conservation Properties Realty.
Nature walks will be conducted at 12 noon and 2 p.m. by naturalist Jeffrey Cooper, director of the La Semilla community stewardship organization, and by Steve Buckley, manager of Sonoita Creek Farms, the sustainable agriculture farm and tree nursery that's8217;s part of Three Canyons.
