Product Organic Hair Styling Aid Kicks Off Second Year in Marketplace

After a successful first year in business, the all-natural hair styling pomade called simply, "Product", is poised for strong second year growth. In the first year of sales, "Product" attracted a devoted following from retail customers and some of the nation's top hair stylists. To celebrate the milestone, the company website, http://thenameisproduct.com, recently launched a blog devoted to eco-conscious hair care and organic beauty topics.

In early 2007, a Los Angeles couple, Michael Hacker and Rachel Whitman, started a company called The Name Is Product to market an organic hair styling aid with the uniquely generic name, "Product". The shea-butter based pomade is distinguished by the simplicity of its formula which contains only five ingredients, all of which are one hundred percent natural. Shea butter is a natural fat extracted from the fruit of the karite tree, which is found in regions throughout the African continent. It is well-known for its emollient and moisturizing properties and for providing UV protection. "Product" also contains pure aloe vera and vitamin E, is designed for both men's and women's hair, and works well with all hair types.

"Product" quickly came to the attention of consumers and hair care professionals after being singled out in Elle Magazine's annual "Beauty Genius Awards" issue in March 2007. Beauty editors responded strongly to the eco-friendly formula, natural ingredients and catchy packaging. More press coverage followed, including positive articles in Modern Salon and Lucky magazines. The Name Is Product next targeted elite professional hair and makeup artists with top agencies on both coasts, and has built a following among cutting-edge editorial hair stylists. Amy Komorowski, a makeup artist and men's groomer based in New York City, was drawn to the formula's versatility, saying, "I absolutely love 'Product!' I've never come across a product that can be used on every hair type -- from curly to straight, thick to thin. It does exactly what it states on the jar and the best part is that it's organic."

The Name Is Product recently partnered with the Teens for Safe Cosmetics organization in several events, including their 2008 National Summit in Marin County, CA. The non-profit advocacy group works to educate young women about beauty product ingredients and encourages safe, natural and environmentally friendly cosmetic choices. The teens tested and approved "Product" as a healthy hair styling aid that is in keeping with their standards because of its pure, plant-derived components.

Driven by a desire to explore healthy personal care and "green" lifestyle options, The Name Is Product earlier this year created a blog (www.thenameisproduct.typepad.com) to communicate more directly with consumers. In addition to promoting "Product", the blog features news and information about the rapidly expanding field of all-natural beauty and hair care and discusses the benefits, for individuals and for the planet, of choosing organic and plant-based products.
