Toxic Waste Dumping Within the Boundaries of a Minority Community Located in Dickson County Tenn
The Dickson County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is appalled by the negligent disposal of toxic waste materials by persons unknown to this writer, near Eno Road located in Dickson County, Tenn.
The Dickson County Branch of the NAACP and members of Dickson County see a need for immediate relief for the community and request that necessary actions are taken to prohibit the continuation of unethical dumping of toxic waste in the minority community and that the local officials take actions to clean -up the site.
The residents, minority residents in particular, of the Dickson County have unknowingly been exposed to cancer-causing chemicals for years in their drinking water.
Upon being made aware of this shortcoming, the Dickson County NAACP has worked vigorously to eliminate this practice. The mere fact that local politicians would allow such despicable acts to continue is alarming and should be a signal to citizens of the local community that changes are in dire need during upcoming the pending elections of 2008.
Corporate greed and environmental racism are horrid acts. The Dickson County Branch of the NAACP calls upon the judicial system to hold all guilty parties accountable for their part in upholding that practice of illegal disposal of toxic in the Dickson County community.
Federal, state, local, and moral laws have been violated. Above all, the minority community of Dickson County has been unethically targeted by persons unknown to this writer, to be a dumping ground for these toxic waste materials without their knowledge.
The Dickson County branch of the NAACP supports authorities in the prosecution of all unlawful acts that have occurred. We also demand that the Department of Justice conduct an formal investigation, IAW Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to determine if penalties are appropriate to be applied to the local, and county governmental agencies for their lack of protecting members of the minority community.
The results of the Department of Justice investigation should be published locally so the community can be assured that there is no cover-up.
The Dickson County branch of the NAACP calls upon the TN NAACP Conference, Region V and other National NAACP organizations of the NAACP to unite with us in an effort to hold rallies and marches for justice for families affected by these avoidable atrocities.
The families and individuals who suffer from cancer and the increased risk of cancer due to this illegal dumping of toxic waste within the minority community are to numerous to outline in this document.
All citizens of these United States have a constitutional right to clean air and clean water. Dickson County minority community is represented in that ALL.
