Association of Zoos and Aquariums Hails Incoming NOAA Administrator

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (http://www.aza.org/) (AZA) today commended President-elect Obama'ss choice of Dr. Jane Lubchenco to be the incoming Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Dr. Lubchenco is a well-respected and distinguished scientist and a passionate advocate for marine conservation, said AZA President and CEO Jim Maddy. AZA-accredited aquariums have worked closely with Dr. Lubchenco and have tremendous respect for her scientific achievements.

AZA member institutions play a critical role in the conservation of marine species in their natural habitats through the broad-based environmental education and conservation research activities.

We salute Dr. Lubchenco and look forward to working with her in her new role, added Maddy. NOAA and AZA-accredited aquariums will continue to work together to conserve our oceans and marine resources.

Founded in 1924, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of zoos and aquariums in the areas of conservation, education, science, and recreation. Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you, and a better future for all living things. The AZA is a leader in global wildlife conservation, and your link to helping animals in their native habitats. To learn more, visit www.aza.org.
