As a nation, 40% of us believe that investing in renewable energy will have the biggest impact in reducing UK carbon emissions, but as little as just over 10% of us have actually invested in renewable energy sources for the home in the last 12 months.
A survey of 1,000 UK residents, commissioned by boiler and solar thermal appliances manufacturer Glow-worm (www.glow-wormheating.co.uk/clearlysolar), looked into people's understanding of exactly which methods will have the biggest impact in
reducing carbon emissions. It also explored what people had done to reduce their own carbon footprint in the previous twelve months.
The findings highlighted that more than 30% of people believe cutting back on energy use will have the biggest impact in reducing carbon emissions. Reassuringly, 81% of people said they
had reduced their use of power in the home in a bid to reduce their own carbon footprint.
With the recent increase in energy prices, it seems more of us are looking to reduce our energy consumption and are investigating alternative sources to power our homes.
Katie Cope, Brand Manager for Glow-worm (www.glow-wormheating.co.uk/clearlysolar) commented: "The results demonstrate people's
desire to invest in renewable energy. The amount of people who have actually acted on this desire suggests that there may be a barrier in making the investment.
"Whilst the cost of solar thermal appliances may initially seem expensive, a typical solar thermal appliance is capable of delivering an average of 50-60% of a homes domestic hot water
requirements each year. We believe that previously information available for consumers in the marketplace has been very technical and hard to understand. Our Clearly Solar offering is
straightforward and easy to understand, whilst our new website www.glow-wormheating.co.uk/clearlysolar presents all the
information people will need, in an easy to read format."
The launch of Clearly Solar products from Glow-worm last year has allowed solar thermal options to become more accessible.
