Combi Boiler Guide Supports Boiler Scrappage Scheme

A petition for a boiler scrappage scheme has been started by Mick Williams of Williams 's38; Co, plumbers's merchants. The petition calls on the Government to introduce a boiler scrappage scheme whereby consumers would receive a trade-in for their old boilers to enable them to be replaced by high efficiency boilers. The creator of the petition quotes figures from the Energy Saving Trust, stating that:

'sIf everyone in the UK with gas central heating installed a high efficiency condensing boiler, we would save enough energy to heat 3.4 million homes for a whole year and save around 13 million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide. The householder could also save around a third on their heating bills.'s

Apart from the benefits to the Environment and the householder, the introduction of a boiler scrappage scheme would help to stimulate growth in boiler manufacturing and related industries, and it is hoped that it will see the same success as the recently introduced car scrappage scheme.

The type of high efficiency boilers that are likely to replace less efficient models are Combi boilers (http://www.combiboilerguide.co.uk), which are the most widely available high efficiency boilers on the market. Combi boilers are a combined water and central heating boiler and they take up less space than conventional boilers as they do not require an additional hot water tank. Because of their dual function, Combi boilers save on energy, and they are also kinder to the Environment by giving off less gas emissions.

To date the boiler scrappage petition has received more than 300 signatures, and support is increasing. Carl Arntzen, Director, Worcester Bosch Boilers (http://www.combiboilerguide.co.uk/make/worcester-bosch) is backing the petition because of the benefits to the industry as well as to the Environment, in terms of increasing employment and helping to reach Government targets relating to climate change.
