PETE Bottles Get Second Chance At Life Joint Sustainability Effort...

PWP Industries (http://www.pwpindustries.com) today announced the opening of one of the first in-house plastics recycling facilities by a thermoforming company. PWP will work with Coca-Cola Recycling LLC (http://www.thecoca-colacompany.com/presscenter/nr_20080213_recycling.html) to recycle PETE post-consumer bottles into FDA compliant resin for food contact. The new facility will be located in Mineral Wells, West Virginia.

Developing our own recycling facility is the right thing to do as the United States, the number one consumer in the world, faces ecological and energy issues on a global level, says Ira Maroofian, President 's38; COO, PWP Industries. Recycling PETE bottles will allow PWP to increase its product range containing post-consumer resin, save energy, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and keep plastic materials out of landfills. We are fortunate to be able to work with Coca-Cola Recycling LLC who is as committed as we are to a greener future for our planet.

Making plastic products from post-consumer recycled plastics has a tremendous impact on the environment. For example:

* Recycling one ton of plastic saves 1.5 tons of carbon dioxide.

* The energy saved by recycling one plastic bottle will power a computer for 25 minutes.

* Each ton of plastic bottles recycled in a recycling center saves 7.4 cubic yards in a landfill.

* Resin made from recycled PETE bottles saves about two-thirds more energy than virgin resin.

Maroofian adds, PWP is a demonstrated leader in environmental stewardship through its corporate-wide green initiative, called Earth'ss Pack. Through this program, we'sve introduced new products using entirely biodegradable and compostable materials from agricultural scrap. We have also changed the way we manufacture our products at our new facilities in Abilene, Texas and West Virginia through building designs to allow for maximum natural lighting, high-energy efficient lighting and motion detectors for less energy usage. Our existing facilities have also been upgraded with high-energy efficient lighting and motion detectors for less energy usage. The recycling facility in West Virginia will help us continue to provide more eco-friendly products to our customers in efficient ways.

The recycling facility will open in the second quarter of 2009 and will bring more jobs to West Virginia.

PWP Industries, founded in 1998, is a leading PETE and Polypropylene food packaging thermoformer in North America, with manufacturing plants located in Vernon California, Abilene Texas, and Mineral Wells West Virginia. PWP is highly regarded in the food packaging industry for producing competitively priced quality parts, superb customer service, and innovative product designs.
