Save the Rainforest Yes We Can and Its Free

Cooltribe, the recently launched green social networking site, has already started to make a difference. www.cooltribe.com has decided to select the pressing issue of global deforestation as the first cause it will address. For every member who joins the green community, Cooltribe will plant one tree in the rainforest (http://www.cooltribe.com/plant_tree.php) in order to counter illegal logging and deforestation.

We have set the community the challenge to plant 1 million trees by the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, in December 2009, says Hessia Fernandes, Cooltribe Founder.

At the current rate of deforestation, 75% of the Amazon will be depleted by 2030. That'ss not a myth, it'ss a fact and the consequences will be catastrophic. The more trees we plant, the more difference we make. It'ss that simple.

Cooltribe and its tree planting partner Carbonica will provide each of its fully signed up members a certificate to prove that the tree has been planted on their behalf. The certificate will contain the type of tree, the date it was planted, the amount of CO2 the tree will absorb during its lifetime and the GPS location of the tree.

When members sign up at www.cooltribe.com , they can be absolutely certain that a tree will be planted, as our partner Carbonica is fully regulated by Defra. What is more, members can show their certificate to family, colleagues and friends and pass on the word of the tree planting initiative, said Fernandes.

We know Prince Charles has been championing this cause for some time now and the more of us out there doing something positive and tangible, the more impact we will make.

www.cooltribe.com has been live just a few weeks and is working on its applications which will make a real difference to everyday people and help them lead greener lives without it costing them more money.

We started by creating the backbone of a social network and now we are working on the applications that will provide real solutions to people'ss problems and help them reduce their carbon footprint as well as support environmental causes, continues Fernandes.

The objective is to create an active community where you can contribute, learn, have fun and make a tangible difference to your own life and our environment.
