The producers of the Action on Film Festival announced today that director, writer and producer Mark Mahon will be a presenter at the 2007 festival award show.
This year's award ceremony will also feature an award named after him, which he will present. The award will be given annually to a screenplay which displays excellence in writing and the
indomitable spirit of the filmmaker.
"This is a dream come true," said Mahon. "Winning at AOF is responsible for everything that has happened to me."
Mahon is a true example of an AOF success story. In 2005, he flew from Great Britain to California for the festival because his work "Freedom Within The Heart" had been nominated for the
Best Screenplay Unproduced Award. His script took home the award and since then, opportunities have flooded the director.
In 2006, he completed shooting his "Strength & Honour" which he wrote, directed and produced. It follows the story of an Irish boxer who accidentally kills his friend while boxing in
the ring. The movie, which stars Michael Madsen, Vinnie Johns, Patrick Bergin and Richard Chamberlain, will be released before the end of the year.
"Having Mahon come back to the festival will really make this year something special," said Miriam Morris, the AOF Festival Director of Marketing. "We're really looking forward to it."
The AOF Festival, which celebrates the action of movie making as well as the struggle and process that filmmakers must follow to become successful, will take place at the Long Beach
Convention and Entertainment Center July 27-29, 2007.
