Childrens Cancer Research Fund Seventh Annual Time to Fly WalkRunSets...

The seventh annual Children'ss Cancer Research Fund Time to Fly, held Saturday, June 27, at St. Paul'ss Harriet Island, set new records for dollars raised and runners and walkers in attendance. Over 2,000 people helped raise over $175,000 to fund cutting-edge pediatric cancer research at the University of Minnesota.

Despite a rainy day and a challenging economy, runners and walkers of all ages and abilities had a great time raising money for research, said John Hallberg, CEO of Children'ss Cancer Research Fund. Every step they took will bring us closer to a cure for pediatric cancer, as we support doctors who are changing the way cancer is treated worldwide.

This year'ss event was held in memory of Matt Hoff. Matt was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2006 and lost his courageous battle with cancer in late 2008, but Matt'ss family was on hand to help inspire the runners and walkers to support the cause. Over 80 teams participated in the event, and like the Hoff family, 60 of those teams were inspired by children who have been diagnosed with cancer. The largest family team was the Eye Love Retinoblastoma Survivors, with over 80 pre-registered members. The top fund-raising team was the Jack Attack, inspired by young Jack Serakos, a brain tumor patient. The Jack Attack raised over $17,000, and Breanna Serakos from the Jack Attack also received the Beth Shultis Memorial award for the top individual fund-raiser. A team from Delta Air Lines was the top corporate fund-raising team.
