New York City Bird Fair Set for December 10

The New York City Bird Fair is scheduled for Saturday, December 10th from 1 - 4 pm at the New York Theosophical Society, 242 E. 53 Street, between 2nd & 3rd Avenues.



There will be a lecture by Dr. Carl Darby on "Avian Nutrition and Common Behavioural Problems". Dr. Carl Darby was born in Manchester, England. He studied as an undergraduate and postgraduate at Cambridge University and graduated with MA and Bachelor of Veterinary medicine degrees in 1991 with high honors. As a student he undertook research into avian respiratory phsyiology. He practiced specializing in a small animals near London for a year and then moved to New York. He has since worked on Long Island, where he has continued his interest in avian and exotic animal medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, certified in Avian Practice and is interested in all aspects of exotic animal medicine and surgery. He is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and the House Rabbit Society. He lives on Long Island with his wife Denise and sons Christopher and Nicholas, 3 cockatiels, 2 budgies, 2 cats and a dog. In his spare time he enjoys building and flying model helicopters.



Flutist Richard Cahn, a club member and professional musician and composer, will give a recital of bird music. Richard has performed professionally with the Aspen Festival Orchestra and the New York Opera Orchestra and enjoys jamming with fellow musicians at local clubs and benefits in the New York area.



Birds will be available for adoption courtesy the Arcadia Bird Sanctuary

Vendors and private individuals will have bird merchandise for sale at discounted prices. Admission for the general public is $10.
