May 12, 2005 -- Is the W Hotel going to the dogs Find out at the dog-friendly Leashes and Lovers Cocktail Party at the Living Room Bar at the W Hotel on Tuesday, May 17th in Times Square.
The event will help benefit Animal Haven, an animal shelter and sanctuary in New York City.
What better way to get to know someone than with a dog "With a dog at your feet and a cocktail in your hand, one is guaranteed to have a fun time and to meet some really friendly people
and pooches." says Leashes and Lovers co-founder Michelle Kennedy. (She actually knows for certain that "leashes can lead to lovers", as she has been married for three and a half years to
a man she met in Central Park while stopping to pet the Golden Retriever puppy walking him.)
Launched in 2003 by two dog lovers in New York City, Leashes and Lovers is known as the place for dog lovers to mix and mingle. The company organizes and hosts events for dog lovers and
their dogs in various locations in Manhattan and has plans to expand this year. Originally intended for single dog lovers to meet, their events now include all dog lovers due to the
popularity and demand for their events.
According to Sheryl Matthys, co-founder, "Our company is all about creating a sense of community and helping people make connections with others they have something in common with."
The evening event will include: fun mingling, delicious dog treats freshly-baked by Pupcake Studio, appearances by dogs for adoption from Animal Haven, and raffle prizes provided by
various dog-friendly businesses in the local community.
