May 4, 2005 -- "Walking for Children," a walk-a-thon and safety fair to raise money for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) will be held on Sun., May 22 at 9
a.m. in the Skokie Sculpture Park, Evanston. (McCormick Blvd. and Main St.) The event is sponsored by sponsored by Pivot Point Cares for Kids.
In addition to the walk, the Cook County Sheriff's office will fingerprint children and the Evanston Police and Fire Departments will provide safety information.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a. m. All walkers who raise or contribute a minimum of $25 in advance or $35 on the day of the event receive a T-shirt. Children
under 12 walk for free.
NCMEC is the nation's resource for child protection. It spearheads national and international efforts to locate and recover missing children. It also raises public awareness about ways to
prevent child abduction, molestation and sexual exploitation. Pivot Point and its member schools have raised more than $350,000 for the center.
