Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod Launch BodyBreak Multivitamins

Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod helped develop a new line of BodyBreak multivitamins and are partnering with Shoppers Drug Mart in a national media campaign to support healthy multivitamin use.

Hal and Joanne, not satisfied with the current crop of multivitamins, set out to develop a better multivitamin. The new multivitamin addresses two key deficiencies of current multivitamins:

1. Quality of vitamin and mineral source materials

2. Excessive use of non-medicinal ingredients.

Together with a team of experts, Hal and Joanne developed a multivitamin with highly bio-available sources and fewer non-medicinal ingredients to make a truly healthy multivitamin.

Many mass market multivitamins use low quality sources. These sources tend to be cheaper because they are not as readily absorbed by the body. Highly bio-available sources offer more useful minerals for the same dosage size. One example of a good mineral source is calcium citrate. The human body absorbs a higher percentage of calcium citrate than calcium phosphate. By using calcium citrate, a multivitamin can provide more useful calcium for the same dosage size.

Mass market multivitamins tend to have up to 30 or more non-medicinal ingredients. The BodyBreak multivitamins use only three required non-medicinal ingredients. Required non-medicinal ingredients hold the tablet together and to keep the formula from clumping while mixing. Non-essential non-medicinal ingredients used by many multivitamins include artificial colors, artificial flavours, sugars, oils, chemical preservatives, and many even include fillers such as talc to bulk up the tablet size.

By using only essential non-medicinal ingredients, and by choosing highly bio-available sources, the caplet can be kept small. This makes it easier to swallow. Many people avoid taking a daily multivitamin because they dread swallowing large tablets. By reducing the caplet size, Hal and Joanne hope to encourage daily multivitamin use.

For 20 years, Hal and Joanne have provided health and fitness advice to Canadian through their BodyBreak TV episodes. Now they are offering healthy alternative for Canadians: a unique, made-in-Canada multivitamin.
