Top DC Colorist Offers Color Tips for Spring 2008

After months of dealing with wind, snow and sleet, most people are eagerly anticipating the changing of the seasons. With spring right around the corner now is a great time to begin planning what to do with your hair to get ready for outdoor restaurants, barbecues, and the beach.

If you have been considering doing something with your hair color, there are a number of important factors to consider. Anne Landry, one of the top colorists in the DC-area, offers the following tips to help you plan before making a decision with your hair color:

Choosing the right color for spring '08 - Spring is the most romantic time of the year, so hair color should get softer, warmer and richer. You may want to consider adding a little sparkle to your hair and golden highlights are popular this year.

Whether to color or highlight - If you love your natural hair color then you may want to consider enhancing it with a few highlights for contrast. Alternatively, if you have started to gray and your hair is losing some of its luster, then you should consider color, possibly with a few soft highlights. If it is your first time coloring, then most experts would recommend multi-colored highlights, not too far from your natural color.

How to choose the right color - You should first ask yourself whether you want to make a bold statement with your hair color or if you don't even want people to know you have colored your hair . Additionally, your skin tone and the color of your eyes will help you determine which color you can wear.

How to find the right colorist - The best way to find a great colorist is to start with their handiwork. If you see someone and really love their hair color, simply ask them politely who did it. Definitely do a color consultation beforehand - often times they are free of charge and they are a great way to get a feel for the salon as well as the colorist who is going to be working with your hair .

How to get the most out of your colorist - Make sure your goal is mutually understood beforehand. Bring pictures to your consultation to help your colorist clearly understand what you want your hair to look like. Remember - some colors may take a few visits but if you have chosen the right colorist and clearly defined what it is you are looking for, you will get there.

If you don't like the way your color looks - You can always change the color of your hair . Make sure to listen to your stylist because they know what your hair will be able to handle (and more importantly what your hair won't be able to handle).
