Few brands in America are able to generate more stories than Pendleton. According to company President, Mort Bishop III, Pendleton constantly receives letters and emails from customers telling stories about their Pendleton shirt, or skirt, or other iconic items that have been passed from generation to generation, or stood the test of time.
Now, the 100-year-old company is asking customers to share their favorite Pendleton story and photo in its Share Your Favorite Pendleton Story Contest, with two $1,000 shopping sprees as
winning prizes. The contest launches today and runs through October 2, 2009 in honor of the company'ss Weaving America'ss Spirit Since 1909 centennial celebration.
What better way to engage with our valued customers than to listen to the wonderful stories they have to tell us, says Bishop. It'ss been 100 years since our first product - the Indian
Trade Blanket - rolled off the looms in Pendleton, Oregon. We added our famous menswear wool shirts in 1924 and the first womenswear product in 1949 with the introduction of our 49'ser
Jacket. Throughout all of our years, our customers have shared their incredible stories of how Pendleton'ss products are woven into their lives.
Pendleton sites stories of a shirt surviving under layers of Mount St. Helen'ss ash after its volcanic eruption and a reversible skirt worn by three generations of women in one family.
Our archives are filled with stories that help us tell the Pendleton story, he says.
To enter, either go on-line at http://www.pendleton-usa.com/contest or visit a Pendleton corporate retail store for complete rules and
an entry form. Tell us in 250 words or less your favorite Pendleton story. You may include one photo (non-returnable) to help your story come to life. Entries must be postmarked by Oct.
2, 2009. The winning story will be announced October 30, 2009. Watch for additional in-store events to be held in late September.

Pendleton Weaving History:
Since the Bishop family (now in its sixth generation of managing Pendleton Woolen Mills) opened the woolen mill in Pendleton, Oregon in February 16, 1909, the company has woven hundreds
of thousands of Indian trade blankets, most of which were purchased by American Indians. The Bishop family and the town of Pendleton came together to build a new mill, which still exists
today, weaving Pendleton jacquard fabric for Indian Trade Blankets.
Three years after the Pendleton mill opened, the Bishops purchased a facility in Washougal, Washington and began to make apparel fabric.
In 1924, Pendleton introduced the world to the first colorful solid and plaid wool men'ss shirts, launching the menswear line. As popularity grew for the shirts, women began seeking
Pendleton products and in 1949 the company launched a womenswear line. It began with the iconic 49'ser Jacket, still a popular item in the company'ss annual fall collections.
Today, Pendleton is one of a handful of American companies still weaving fabric at their own USA mills. They focus on legendary craftsmanship and world class innovation for the specialty
woolens that comprise their home and apparel collections. All Pendleton items are woven with care and quality and carry the iconic label Warranted To Be A Pendleton.
