Lake Geneva, WI May 15, 2008 -- HSA Clearing Corp, the leading Health Savings Account setup provider for financial institutions, says the U.S. Treasury has confirmed their earlier 2009 HSA number projections. "The U.S. Treasury Department yesterday (May 13, 2008) released the inflation-adjusted amounts for health savings accounts (HSAs) for 2009," says Roy Ramthun, Senior Vice President of HSA Clearing Corp. "These numbers are exactly what we projected in March".
The U.S. Treasury reported on May 13, 2008 that for calendar year 2009, the annual limitation on deductions under 223(b)(2)(A) for an individual with self-only coverage under a high deductible health plan is $3,000. For calendar year 2009, the annual limitation on deductions under 223(b)(2)(B) for an individual with family coverage under a high deductible health plan is $5,950.
High Deductible Health Plan/HDHP for calendar year 2009, a "high deductible healthplan" is defined under 223(c)(2)(A) as a health plan with an annual deductible that is not less than $1,150 for self-only coverage or $2,300 for family coverage, and the annual out-of-pocket expenses (deductibles, co-payments, and other amounts, but not premiums) do not exceed $5,800 for self-only coverage or $11,600 for family coverage. The annual catch-up contribution for individuals age 55 or older is set by statute and will be $1000 per person for 2009.
Ramthun also reminds all individuals with HSA-qualified policies to make sure that their policies will still be HSA-qualified for 2009.
