International Accounts Payable Professionals Teams with InterplX toGauge...

With the results of a survey e-mailed to about 12,000 finance professionals and sponsored by InterplX Expense Management, International Accounts Payable Professionals plans to identify the top trends in travel and entertainment reporting, along with ways organizations can streamline this part of their operations.

Expenses in travel and entertainment are coming under increasing scrutiny in this economy, says Tom Bohn, CEO and executive director of IAPP and its sister organization, International Accounts Receivable Professionals. We want to help our members feel better-equipped to respond to the concerns of upper management, government regulators, and others who are re-examining records and procedures. AP managers can save their companies money by staying ahead of the curve in the latest T's38;E reporting methods and tools.

InterplX signed on as a silver partner with IAPP/IARP and sponsored the survey because of its commitment to improving T's38;E expense management. The private corporation with headquarters near Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn., provides its proprietary ExpenseNet expense reporting software and back-office services for Fortune 500 clients and other customers.

Employee expense management is gaining a lot of visibility in today'ss market as companies look to streamline processes and control spending, says Chuck Buckner, president and CEO of InterplX Inc. The market is challenged with balancing the user'ss need for fast and easy tools with the corporate need for compliance. As a result of recent consolidation, the market is being pushed in a new direction. A key trend is the involvement of the travel manager in the expense reporting process.

Recent surveys of travel managers indicate that many of them intend to take over expense report processing in the next year or two, Buckner says. InterplX Expense Management is excited to partner with the IAPP to research the trends and plans in this arena, traditionally the purview of the accounts payable department. We believe IAPP members will find the results of the survey beneficial for maintaining control of their internal processes.

The survey asks participants whether their companies issue credit cards to employees, which brands of cards they use, whether the bills are paid by the company or reimbursed to the employees, what types of systems they use for reporting, whether the corporate data is fed into the expense reporting system electronically, and how expense reports are reviewed, among other questions. Respondents's names are entered in a prize drawing for two round-trip airline tickets for travel within the continental United States, courtesy of Corporate Travel Solutions.

The research will provide the groundwork for an IAPP-published T's38;E handbook to be released in early 2010 authored by Eric Jones, director of corporate payables for Lowe'ss Companies and chair of the IAPP/IARP board of directors. The handbook will be available through the organization'ss Web site, www.TheIAPP.org.
