SWACHAs Emerging Cyber Threats Conference to Highlight Crime WaveAffecting...

Due to the heightened alert among financial institutions and small to midsized businesses as a result of last week'ss news on increased cyber crime, SWACHA'ss upcoming Emerging Cyber Threats Conference has taken on added importance.

Dallas-based SWACHA'ss Emerging Cyber Threats Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. The conference will feature Melissa Horvath, Special Agent, FBI, the lead agent investigating cyber criminals who have targeted small and medium sized businesses. Kris Herrin, CISO for Heartland Payment Systems will also be on hand to discuss their 2008 data breach. The conference will highlight the increasing risks financial institutions face when dealing with threats relating to cyber fraud. It will also teach risk mitigation strategies to help combat cyber attacks.

Because of the magnitude of this problem, we feel it is important to encourage anyone who might be affected by cyber crime to attend, said Dennis Simmons, AAP, SWACHA president and CEO. We hope to provide the attendees with beneficial information to help them become more aggressive in avoiding cyber attacks.

Small to midsize businesses often run their companies with one laptop, from which they do everything including initiating emails, maintaining financial records and conducting business transactions. This creates the opportunity for a large number of these businesses to become vulnerable to financial predators.

The conference is open to all SWACHA members and non-members for a fee of $200 if registered by September 11, 2009. The fee for those who register after the September 11 deadline is $250. The final registration deadline is September 19, 2009.
