Don Iovino started pouring his own worms and using light tackle to catch giant California bass more than 30 years ago. At first, he was scoffed at by serious bass anglers of the time, but
soon after landing over 100 largemouth bass on his finesse techniques, he turned the bass fishing world on its head.
Now Don teaches electronics and does seminars all over the country and is name is known for not only finesse fishing, but for one of the hottest topwater baits on the market for over 20
years, the Don Iovino "Splash It"
Don has won numerous tournaments and is a Charter Member of the International Fishing Hall Of Fame.
A fixture in professional bass fishing for more than fifteen years, Don Iovino and his innovative fishing techniques has become one of the most identifiable pioneers of finesse fishing
throughout the Country. It was through the recognition of his peers, his innovative fishing techniques and deep water bass fishing methods, that he was recently inducted as a charter
member into the International Fishing Hall of Fame (IFHF). As an ambassador for the IFHF, he continues to strive for higher standards in public life, the historical and educational side
of the sport fishing industry, and his continued participation in conserving and preserving our natural habitat

reservoirs of California. In 1985, he was crowned Angler of the Year in both North and West Divisions for the United States Bass Fishing Association (U.S. BASS), the only Angler to have
ever accomplished this. He also won the organization's equivalent to the "World Championship" in 1984, capturing the Grand National Fly-Away Tournament at Lake Mohave. His tournament
scorecard also includes five National titles and three "Top 10" finishes in the prestigious U.S. Open Bass Tournament held annually on Lake Mead, and was winner of the 1992 Lake Mohave
WON BASS tournament.
A highly successful Fishing Guide in Southern California and along the Colorado River, he has demonstrated his "doodling" method of plastic worm fishing to numerous clients. Although
retired from the guide business, he now operates a successful promotional business providing customized fishing tackle for his clients in the U.S.A. and the Orient.
While he has gained national acclaim for his fishing, he is both a skilled instructor/speaker teaching college courses on Bass fishing for BassMaster while hosting approximately 25
Seminars a year. His goals include a desire to "give back to the sport" part of what he has garnered in his career. He actively supports fish enhancement projects and remains a willing
ambassador for fishing around the world.
When plastic worm and "structure" fishing for bass took on a new look beginning in 1974, Mr. Iovino began developing the "doodling" technique for deep water angling. Today it is being
recognized across the country as one of the most efficient ways of catching fish holding to specific pieces of cover suspended in deep water. His method includes select use of the graph
recorder and other sonar equipment to locate fish which are active at depth. He then combines boat position with pin-point presentation of the worm in a shaking or "doodling" manner from
a vertical or near vertical position. In conjunction with this method he has devised specific worm models with proven color/salt combination, color-coordinated brass worm weights and
glass beads to add sound to his baits. He also modifies certain bait casting reels for smoother spooling of line, and has developed specific rod actions for the technique which are
marketed by Berkley.
Recognition for Mr. Iovino and his success has been expanded beyond the ranks of his fellow anglers. Many of the most prestigious companies in the fishing industry are utilizing him to
market their products.
