New Aquadeco Premium Spring Water from Canada

Which came first: the product or the packaging Aquadeco (421 Seventh Ave., New York, NY 10001 [212 564-7250 www.aquadecowater.com) is the brainchild of Arnold Gumowitz, a real estate businessman and art collector with a penchant for all things Art Deco. Aquadeco combines high-quality imported spring water from Muskoka Natural Spring in Gavenhurst, Ontario, Canada with an award-winning Art Deco shape bottle. The company was awarded two gold medals for "Best Taste" and "Best Bottle Design" at the 2007 Berkeley Springs International Water Festival in West Virginia.

Taste

The aquifer that supplies Aquadeco water contains an abundant reserve of the purest water ever tasted. The glacial till that supplies the water was created during the last ice age some 18,000 years ago. The retreating ice flow left a glaciofluvial ice-contact deposit of sand with gravel. These distinctly different layers of soils helped to form an incredible filtration matrix for water to flow through. The process results in the removal of ions, pollutants and undesirable compounds at an atomic level, producing a water that is exceptionally pure and healthful. Water testing on the property has proved conclusively that the quality of this spring water falls within the highest ranks of spring water in the world. The source has also been granted the "Spring Water" designation under new strict Canadian government regulations.

Bottle Design

To bring Gumowitz's sketch to life, Aquadeco worked with Flowdesign (www.flow-design.com). The 750-ml bottle stands tall, resembling an Art Deco building with fanned out fins that taper down to a stair-stepped base.

Once the design was complete, Aquadeco had a new challenge on their hands - finding a company technically capable of making the bottle. Because the design is wide at the top and tapers down at the bottom it became top heavy by the large mass of glass, each time the bottle came out of the mold the bottles collapsed into the base. Finally, Steklarna Hrastnick in Slovenia, known for producing one of the clearest glasses in the world, discovered the optimal wall thickness combined with the weight of the glass.
