April 8, 2006 -- Bill Lydon, PLCopen North America, to address Control Engineers in Milwaukee April 20, 2006 on the benefits of the IEC 61131-3 Industrial Automation Programming Standard.

Increased industrial automation is required for business to be competitive and this presentation illustrates how the IEC 61131-3 software standard enables controls engineers to improve the quality, efficiency, and maintainability of creating industrial automation systems. IEC 61131-3 is the only open controls programming standard and is being used by many open architecture industry groups such as OMAC (Open, Modular Architecture Control) to describe best practices in control programming.

Using IEC 61131-3 allows people with different backgrounds and skills to create elements of a program throughout the software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, testing, installation and maintenance. This is particularly important where systems are being deployed worldwide. This presentation describes and illustrates a number of ways to improve control programming projects including: Rapid Prototyping, Collaborate Engineer, Object Oriented Programming Techniques, and Enterprise Interfaces
