The artisan beer that Allyn creates at the Voodoo Brewery is made with the best ingredients available. Not only are his brews unique, they're of the best quality. Hops are the most important ingredient in beer, and Allyn uses 13 different kinds of hops for his craft beer.
Although beer from Voodoo Brewery may seem pricey at first, selling for $9 a piece, it is important to keep in mind the lengths that Allyn must go in order to create this quality beer. Each beer that Allyn has created requires specific ingredients. The wheat ale, for example, contains coriander, orange peels, and twelve kinds of peppercorn. Consumers must also remember that the price of hops has increased as much as 400% in recent months.
For now, Voodoo Brewing is a small operation with six individual beers in production. In 2007, Allyn shipped his first batch to Vella Vista Beverage in Philadelphia. "They blew out the door," said Jordan FetFatzes, who is the store's manager. It's a good sign for Allyn that customers are able to see beyond the price and appreciate his brews.
For now, Allyn is hoping to sell 1,000 barrels of Voodoo brews. "We want to stay small," Allyn says. "And we want to do it for the best price we can."
