The NBA Finals took on new meaning this year when pizzerias around the country began putting their philanthropies on the line. It all started when Abo'ss Pizza in Highland Ranch, Colorado challenged Fresh Brothers in Redondo Beach, California to a friendly wager over the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Finals game. The wager A $500 donation to the winning pizzeria'ss favorite charity. Needless to say, Fresh Brothers came out on top, earning $500 for their philanthropy of choice - the Redondo Beach Education Foundation.
When we were approached by Abo'ss Pizza, I couldn'st pass up the wager. I knew my Lakers would deliver, Debbie Goldberg, co-owner and operator of Fresh Brothers, explains. With California
education in need, my first thought was the Redondo Beach Education Foundation, located in one of our restaurant'ss hometown. After winning, we began searching Florida for our own bet and
Pizza Fusion seemed like it was the perfect fit.
Socially conscious Pizza Fusion (http://www.pizzafusion.com) kindly welcomed Fresh Brothers's bet with their stake to go towards Autism Speaks,
which the organic restaurant chain'ss running team, named the 'sFusion Extreme Team's, is currently raising $20,000 for through the Seattle Rock n's Roll marathon. This time, Fresh
Brothers restructured the bet to benefit the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation, which supports the educational needs of the town of Fresh Brothers's other location in Manhattan Beach,
California.
It was fun and for a good cause. We had to accept the challenge, Vaughan Lazar, president and co-founder of Pizza Fusion, states. Fresh Brothers came to the table but, unfortunately, the
Orlando Magic didn'st. Despite the loss, we'sre happy to contribute to the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation. It'ss certainly a worthy cause. Maybe next year we'sll be in a better
position for us to place a wager of our own. After losing the bet, Pizza Fusion chose to donated $500 to Autism Speaks, anyway, in addition to its $500 contribution to the Manhattan Beach
Education Foundation.
The Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (http://www.mbef.org) provides a means for schools, individuals and businesses to work together to help children
achieve their potential in an increasingly complex, interesting and challenging world by providing resources for a broad, engaging curriculum beyond what can be offered through public
funding.
