classes will be presented at several of the local wineries, but plans include the development of their own state-of-the-art tasting classroom in Mattituck as well as a small teaching
vineyard and winemaking facility to add to the learning experience. To celebrate the grand opening, all June classes are 50% off the list price of $65.00/person.
Grand Cru Classes was established in April 2005 to promote the Long Island wine region and industry and to provide educational seminars on viticulture and viniculture. Founded by Tracy
Ellen Kamens and Jared M. Skolnick, Grand Cru Classes was created out of a serious love of wine and a desire to share that love with others, along with strong confidence in the North Fork
wine region of Long Island. Taking its name from the grand cru classé (great growth classification) systems of identifying the exceptional vineyards and chateaux in various French wine
regions, Grand Cru Classes seeks to classify and distinguish itself as a partner in the great growth occurring in Long Island'ss wine region. With Long Island'ss wines more akin to
Bordeaux than California, we feel the reference is apropos. Moreover, we strive for the utmost quality in everything we do and will provide wine education of the highest caliber at all
student levels. Above all, we want to make learning about wine an entertaining and enjoyable experience.
Tracy Ellen Kamens is Chief Education Officer and Co-founder of Grand Cru Classes. When not tasting or teaching about wine, Tracy is an administrator at New York University, with nearly
fifteen years of experience in higher education. She earned her Doctor of Education degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004 and received her B.S. degree from Cornell
University. Tracy completed both the Intermediate and Advanced Certificate courses through the Wine & Spirits Education Trust in 2005 and is currently enrolled in their Diploma of
Wine & Spirits program. In addition, she holds the Certified Specialist of Wine credential from the Society of Wine Educators and is a member of the American Wine Society.
Jared M. Skolnick is President and Co-founder of Grand Cru Classes. Presently in the technology field, Jared spent more than ten years in the hospitality industry, eventually serving as a
restaurant General Manager. He is currently completing his MBA degree at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.
