May 19, 2005 -- The 2005 WineMaker International Amateur Wine Competition judging committee has awarded the Retailer of the Year medal to Michael Lese, an Elkhart business owner. Mr.
Lese, who owns and operates Quality Wine and Ale Supply, a homebrew and wine making supply store, operating at 108 S. Elkhart Ave. in Elkhart, was awarded the Retailer of the Year medal
for having the most customers enter homemade wines in the amateur wine competition which was held April 22 - 24 at the Equinox Resort in Manchester, Vermont.
Event organizers stated, "The event represented the largest and most diverse collection of amateur wines ever assembled. From April 22 - 24, 2005, a total of 2,247 different wine entries
from hobby winemakers living in 46 American states, 7 Canadian provinces and as far away as Israel were judged."
Out of the 93 entries sent in by customers of Quality Wine and Ale Supply, 45 won medals including Grand Champion and Best of Show. Along with the customers winning medals of their own,
Lese awarded his winners wine kits and gift certificates making it the largest company promotion ever.
Over the course of three days, judging panels worked through over 400 flights, examining each wine using the UC-Davis 20-point wine scale evaluating appearance, aroma, taste, aftertaste
and overall impression. The yearly competition is sponsored by WineMaker magazine.
