Honest Chocolates of McMinnville is set to open its second store in Oregon, in the city of Newberg, just in time for the holiday season. "Ever since we started selling chocolates in McMinnville, visitors have encouraged us to open more Honest Chocolates stores," said owner and chocolate-maker Dana Dooley. "With the opening of our Newberg location, we hope to be more accessible to our customers in northern Yamhill County and the greater Southwest Metro area." The new store is located at 312 E. First Street in Newberg and will be open Tuesday through Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store phone number is 503-537-0754. Honest Chocolates will continue to make and sell chocolates in its original location at 313 NE Third Street in downtown McMinnville.
Honest Chocolates has staked its reputation on the quality and freshness of its handmade chocolates. The company keeps its prices affordable by focusing on flavor rather than deluxe
packaging, extravagant ingredients, or extensive marketing. Proprietary recipes include handmade marshmallow, honey caramel and hazelnut butter toffee. A special line of wine reduction
firm ganaches (similar to truffles, but denser due to a higher proportion of chocolate) pairs nicely with chocolate-friendly red wines such as port or pinot noir.
A Grand Opening Celebration will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. during Newberg's First Friday ArtWalk on November 2. The featured artist is Carmen Borras. Originally from Costa Rica, where
she was a Professor of Studio Art at the University of Costa Rica before moving to the Willamette Valley, Ms. Borras's work has been exhibited throughout Central America as well as in
Europe, Asia, and the US. Working primarily with oils, she describes her style as "poetic realism", creating new meanings from the juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated objects in her
compositions.
Popular local musician Dana Libonati will play jazz piano for the event. In addition to performing, the talented Mr. Libonati is a composer, arranger, recording artist, conductor and
professor of jazz studies at Linfield College.
Tyrus Evan of Carlton will be pouring its 2004 Claret Ciel du Cheval Vineyard. This Bordeaux-style wine from acclaimed wine-maker Ken Wright consists of 60% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot and
20% Cabernet Franc.
Honest Chocolates will provide a variety of chocolate samples, including a dark chocolate currant-claret firm ganache custom-designed for the Tyrus Evan Ciel du Cheval claret being
poured.
The Honest Chocolates Newberg Grand Opening is free and open to the public. There is a $2 tasting fee for the wine.
Honest Chocolates is located at 313 NE 3rd Street in historic downtown McMinnville, OR, where their fresh handmade chocolates are made and sold, including a featured line of wine-tasting
