May 18, 2005 -- The unique bistro offers a delightful mix of coastal Mediterranean cuisine and hip style that reflects the central importance of food to the ancient cultures that surround
the Mediterranean Sea. The four dining rooms reflect the dominant influences on the menu: Italian, Greek, French, Spanish and Moroccan.
From its seashore paintings and pastel dcor to its city-best patio, Mosaic strives to provide a setting perfect for special date nights as well as post-work cocktail hour on the patio.
Patrons can take a vacation to the Mediterranean by just stopping in.
Always, though, it's about authentic food. As the name implies, great care is taken to ensure each flavor in a dish stands on its own, but in total harmony with the next. Diners can find
goat cheese crottin served with stuffed grape leaves and fig vinaigrette, or lamb served with chickpeas, dates and couscous. It is, as Amir thinks of it, as "culinary synergy."
Mosaic opened in March 2004, and then closed temporarily so that Amir, in typical engineering fashion, could make the pieces better fit his vision. Within months, Mosaic was back, good
enough to be hailed as one of Atlanta Magazine's "Top Ten Restaurants" in January and April 2005 and is considered among one of the "Best of 2004" by Knife & Fork.
Not bad for a restaurant rookie. Following 22-years in business with Nortel, Amir embarked on a labor of love to reflect his own colorful past. Born in Casablanca, schooled in Canada, the
engineer with an MBA spent years living throughout Africa, Europe, North America and Asia before settling in Atlanta in 2000.
"Mosaic was a bit of a leap for me, but it was something I had to do," says Amir. "I had a story to tell about food, about people, and about falling in love, and ultimately what you see
at Mosaic is an expression of who I am and where I'm from."
